Shiny Things April 8th – 14th
The things, good and bad, distracting me this week are:( Actually from the weekend.) Ready Player One.
I have now seen the movie twice, read the book and listened to the audio book narrated by Will Wheaton (because it’s just so meta to hear him name check himself and Star Trek TNG.)
The movie is just straight out fun. There are so many little details to see. I couldn’t catch everything the first time.
Of course, the book is always better. If you like YA and haven’t had a chance to read the book, I recommend it. For those of us old enough to remember the eighties, the book, especially, is full of references: “You have been recruited by the Star League to defend the Frontier against Xur and the Ko-Dan Armada.” (Drop me a note if you recognize this one!)
For everyone else, it’s just an engrossing mashup of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Matrix.
Also, it’s pretty cool that it’s set in Columbus, OH.
O-H! (Columbus, people will get this)
Speaking of YA, my YA Fantasy Halflimg is going on sale for .99 from April 21-27

I also had an early senior moment this weekend. My son wanted a stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut. My husband wanted pizza, but is sick of Pizza Hut, so he wanted us to order from somewhere else. I’m like, “No problem. I’ll get everyone what they want.”
“But the delivery fees…!”
Thinking I’ll circumvent the fees by carrying out, I order a pizza from Pizza Hut and go to get it. When I get there, they have no record of me. I fish out my phone to show them the confirmation email and discover that I ordered carry out all right, but my phone thought I was still in Rochester, NY (from Easter) and I hadn’t noticed.
Yep, I had a steaming hot pizza waiting for me a mere six or so hours away. Ugh! Luckily, my parents hadn’t eaten and my Mom was going by there anyway. 😜
Also distracting me: Taxes. Enough said.
I was really sick a few days ago, chest stuff mostly, and am still coughing, so I didn’t get much work done last week, so this week I plan to finish reading and making notes for revision on The Shadow Prince. My Middle Grade/YA fantasy has been sitting in my computer for far too long. It’s time to finally, fix it and shove it out to be evaluated by the world.
I’d also like to finish up the M/M romance novella I plan to release under a pseudonym. I’m waiting on a beta reader.
Then I can get back to the Chimera Chronicles.
Other life stuff, my dog had been quite sick. He still has an autoimmune disease that stops him from processesing protein (IPSID) but the medicine and enzymes have worked and he’s back to a normal weight!
Here he is at Easter. You can still see the depressions in front of his ears where muscle should be, but hopefully, he’ll get it back.
Have you read, Ready Player One? What did you think? Favorite part? If you saw the movie after reading the book, what changes annoyed you most? What ones did you think made sense? Did you all have a good weekend? Take a trip? Drop me a comment and let me know!
Have a shiny week!
